Salt Mine & Schindler Factory Tour If you feel like you have seen all the churches of Cracow and that you can't stand another day wandering about Main Square.... only about 10 km East of Krakow you'll find historic underground chambers, shafts and caverns decorated with sculptures and carvings. It's the only site in the world where mining has continued since the Middle Ages. In the old times mining and resultant excavations could be shown only to members of the upper classes. Well, luckily the system in Wieliczka has became a little bit more democratic since then and we invite you to admire the magnificent chapel made out of salt, captivating underground lakes traces of mining works.
Not many are aware that the factory famous from "The Schindler's list" is still existing in Krakow. Significant portions of the film were shot in Krakow, on the actual premises of Schindler's former factory in Lipowa Street. Even though there is not much left in the building for thousands of visitors from all over the world who have seen Spielberg's film, visiting the actual site where these extraordinary events took place is a deeply moving experience.
